30 Mar A Supermoon in Astrology: What Is It & How Does it Affect Us
If you checked out my article on the significance of planets in astrology, then you know that the moon governs the flow and ebb of emotions. This means that a full moon will dramatically amplifies our emotions, resulting in an amalgamation of lunacy, mayhem, and at times, miracles.
If you take it a step further, you’ll learn that the supermoon in astrology gives us an additional dose of “lunar” – on top of what a full moon delivers.
That said, before getting into the nitty-gritty details regarding the supermoon in astrology, allow me to knock out the basics out of the way first.
What is a supermoon in astrology?
Even though the term “supermoon” has been all over the media over the last couple of years, it’s not an official astronomical term. It belongs to the astrological realm, as it was first coined in 1979 by an astrologer by the name Richard Nolle.
When he devised the name, Nolle was describing a phenomenon that makes the new or full moon look bigger when it’s less than 222,000 miles away from earth. That is around 90 percent of the average distance between the Earth and the Moon (239,000 miles.)
Now you may be wondering:
Why do supermoons occur?
Well, it all comes down to the simple fact that our moon’s orbit around the Earth isn’t a perfect circle. It’s oval (also known as an elliptical shape.)
Due to this shape, the Moon’s distance from Earth constantly changes as it travels around the world. In addition to that, the Earth doesn’t sit directly in the elliptical orbit’s center either, which emphasizes the points in the Moon’s orbit when it’s farthest and closest to Earth. These points are called apogee and perigee, respectively.
What it means to be born on a supermoon in astrology.
If you were born during a supermoon, then your lunar nature is intensified and your instincts and emotions can be powerful forces if you learn how to manage them. In addition to that, everything linking to the moon in your birth chart carries added weight.
So, now that you understand the basics of a supermoon in astrology and its significance, here is how it can affect all of us.
Sensitivity tuned up to the highest degree
As I mentioned in the preceding section of the post, a supermoon in astrology occurs in conjunction with either a full or new moon.
So, for instance, if a supermoon is combined with a full moon and it occurs during the zodiac sign of Leo, you can expect to experience an increased level of emotional reactions than you would have during a regular full moon. Also expect to put them on full display.
The zodiac sign of Leo is highly expressive and isn’t afraid to express itself in public.
Secrets can get revealed
Having a full supermoon in astrology amplifies a regular full moon’s spiritual effects as well – which means that during this period of time, secrets that can put an end to certain areas of your life may come to light.
This could be a job you’re stuck in, a relationship, or some other thing that isn’t right and isn’t working for you.
If that happens, then take it as an opportunity to pull up your emotional weeds and cut the cord on relationships, behaviors, or habits that are no longer serving you positively. Most importantly, try to remain calm if you receive any bad news.
I know it’ll feel like you’ve taken one step forward and two steps back. But in fact, you will have taken six steps forward and one step back.
Whatever the supermoon ushers out of your life, take it as a sign of major growth to come.
