10 Apr The 2 Lunar Nodes in Astrology and Their Roles
Lunar Nodes in astrology are points in the sky where the moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic. To those who are new to astrology and astronomy, the ecliptic is the apparent path of the Sun’s motion on the celestial sphere as seen from Earth.
That said, as shown in the image above, the Moon’s orbit around the Earth slightly differs from the ecliptic, thus creating two opposite spots where the paths intersect. These spots are the Lunar South Node and the Lunar North Node.
So, if you’re open to astrology’s cosmic guidance, then you do not want to overlook the meaning of lunar nodes in astrology – as these points in your birth chart can tell you a ton about your life’s purpose, path, and the lessons you should focus on learning in your life in order to live the most fabulous life.
How Lunar Nodes in Astrology Affect our Lives
Expert astrologers believe that South and North Nodes of a birth chart (also called the “Nodes of Fate”) are helpful zodiacal indicators that usher us directly towards our life paths’ most fulfilling spiritual aspects.
They also show us what skins we need to shed in order to reach that point.
In a birth chart, the South Node represents where you’re coming from and what you’re bringing into this lifetime. That includes lessons you learned in your past lives as well as all the qualities and gifts that you have already mastered.
The North Node, on the other hand, will represent the life path you’re destined to go through in this lifetime. It’s your destiny. That said, it most likely won’t be easy to embrace – but it will be, without a doubt, spiritually fulfilling when you do.
How both Nodes interact with each other
Both lunar nodes in astrology feed from each other. This means that in order to become the kind of person you aspire to be, you first have to overcome your past.
Think of it this way, the South Node represents your past, which comes with lessons and karmic baggage from your cosmic pasts. The North Node, however, gives you a chance to overcome your fears (including those that fall outside your comfort zone) and ensure you do not slip into past habits.
Note though, every Lunar node has its own zodiac sign in your birth charts, just like ruling planets do. But Lunar Nodes are not actually celestial objects like stars and planets. They are simply mathematical points that take into account the relationship between the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun at the time of your birth.
I won’t go too deep into the astronomical and mathematical specifics of how the Nodes are calculated in your birth chart. But given that these spots are purely theoretical and do not exist in a physical plane, then it makes sense that all the concepts they govern are less ethereal and more spiritual.
But the two aren’t always working against each other.
Whatever sun sign your South Node falls in will almost always be the exact opposite of your North Node’s sun sign. And while this means they can easily be perceived as opposite in lots of ways, they also tend to work in perfect symbiosis in order to show you where you should be heading, where you’re coming from, and who you are.
As my favorite astrologer likes to say, “Whether or not we decide to consciously work on these lessons and fears, events in our lives will find ways to force us to confront them.”
The bottom line – there is no escaping the yin and yang of your Lunar Nodes in astrology.
